The blue-tongued skink is a large, heavy-bodied lizard native to Australia. It is known for its smooth overlapping scales, stout build, short legs, and bright blue tongue, which it uses as a defense display. These skinks are active during the day and spend much of their time exploring the ground in search of food.
Blue-tongued skinks live in a variety of habitats, including woodlands, grasslands, scrublands, and suburban areas. When threatened, they may puff up their bodies, hiss, and flash their blue tongue to startle predators. Their bold appearance and curious behavior make them one of Australia’s most recognizable lizards.
